STEP ONE: UNITE WITH YOUR COWORKERS. Workers meet with MCGEO representatives to learn more about joining MCGEO. A committee of workers and MCGEO reps will gather signatures on authorization cards.
STEP TWO: A PETITION IS FILED. If 30-49% of eligible employees sign union cards, MCGEO will file a petition for a representation election. If 50+ 1% sign authorization cards, the union will be certified. Management won’t know who signed the authorization cards because a neutral third party from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service will verify the validity cards.
STEP THREE: VOTE UNION YES! When a majority of workers vote YES, we will sit down with management to negotiate a contract and improve our wages, benefits, and working conditions.
STEP FOUR: FORM A NEGOTIATING COMMITTEE. A committee of co-workers and UFCW representatives will meet with the company to negotiate a union contract with guaranteed wages, benefits, and working conditions.
STEP FIVE: VOTE ON YOUR CONTRACT. Together, we all decide whether we like the contract and vote to accept or reject it. No one pays union dues until the contract is approved.
