On Thursday, September 1, 2016, an election was held for a unit of 34 warehouse workers employed by The Robertson Group, a contractor with the Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control. These employees have no benefits, are only allowed a lunch break two times a week (even though they work five days a week), and irrespective of tenure, still receive the same hourly wage as a new hire. In working alongside our existing membership at the Department of Liquor Control warehouse, the employees knew firsthand the benefits of an unionized workplace. Therefore, “It was an easy choice to join the Union,” said Ryan Simpson, a Truck Loader employed by The Robertson Group. After the votes were counted, the results were 20 votes in favor of the Union and 11 for the Employer. We are excited to welcome these workers to the UFCW
