Laurie-Anne Sayles for Gaithersburg City Council

Laurie-Anne Sayles
Local 1994 is proud to support Laurie-Anne Sayles for Gaithersburg City Council and hope you will bring your friends, family and neighbors to the polls and vote for her on Election Day, Tuesday, November 7. Laurie-Anne will be our champion for a vibrant economy full of opportunity for upward mobility, for safe and healthy communities, for a sustainable environment, and for a government that is responsive and open to all. Most importantly, Laurie-Anne will stand up for collective bargaining rights for Gaithersburg city employees and will continue being a champion for working families, because she was raised in one.

Laurie-Anne’s parents, public servants who dedicated their lives to their country and community, inspired Laurie-Anne’s commitment to the community. Her father, an Oncology Nurse and veteran of the U. S. Army, served our country with honor and bravery. Her mother, a MCGEO member and retired social worker, dedicated her life to counseling victims of domestic violence and substance abuse with fairness and compassion. These are the values that will guide Laurie-Anne’s service as your Councilwoman.
Laurie-Anne has widespread experience with City, County, State and Federal government and with our public schools: working for a robust city economy as an active member of Gaithersburg’s Economic and Business Development Committee; confronting poverty; fight for a minimum wage increase, affordable housing, and universal pre-k on the County’s Community Action Board; championing students as Gaithersburg High School’s NAACP Parent Council Liaison and as part of the MCPS Roundtable on Gaithersburg Cluster for Overcrowding. In addition, Laurie-Anne was named 2017 City of Gaithersburg Environmental Steward of the Year and is a board member of the Muddy Branch Alliance.
Laurie-Anne will be a City Council member who reaches out to all neighborhoods, to all City residents. She will listen to our concerns and she will act to ensure every resident has access to the opportunities and resources they need to be self-sufficient.
When you go to the polls on Election Day, vote for Laurie-Anne Sayles, the public servant with vision and experienced leadership. To learn more about Laurie-Anne’s background and vision for the City, please visit her website at

Local 1994 Officially Endorses Manno for Congress

Local 1994 has joined UFCW Local 400 and Local 27 in officially endorsing State Senator Roger Manno for Congress. Manno is running for the seat in Congressional District 6.
“This fight for equality of opportunity is among America’s greatest challenges today,” says Manno on his campaign website. “It begins with a good job, benefits, and a level playing field. And if you get sick, lose your job, or just need some help along the way, you deserve a system that’s fair and built for everyone – and someone to stand up for you and your family.”
“Roger Manno has been a champion for workers both in the state capitol and on picket lines,” said Gino Renne, President of UFCW Local 1994.
Roger is an attorney and former Capitol Hill aide to several offices. He is running against Delegates William “Bill” Frick and Aruna Miller, along with Liquor Mogul David Trone who spent millions in a Congressional race against Jamie Raskin in Congressional District 8.
