National Forensic Science Week: Recognizing Our Forensic Science Members
This week, UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO joins in recognizing National Forensic Science Week, September 20–26, and the dedicated members who provide forensic science services with the Montgomery County Police.
Forensic science professionals play an important role in our public safety system, applying specialized knowledge and expertise to help investigate crimes, analyze evidence, and support the work of law enforcement and the courts.
MCGEO is proud to represent these highly skilled professionals and thanks our forensic science members for the important work they do every day to serve Montgomery County and our community.
Crossing Guards Set Off On Another School Year
With students back in classrooms across Montgomery County, our Crossing Guards are back on the job—helping students safely navigate high-priority intersections and major walkways during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
This week, UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO and the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) held back-to-school safety briefings for Crossing Guards on September 15, 16, and 17. The meetings helped prepare our members for another school year and reinforce the importance of knowing their union rights benefits available to them.
MCGEO extends a special thank you to our Crossing Guards for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to keeping Montgomery County students safe. Their presence, vigilance, and professionalism make a difference every morning and afternoon as students travel to and from school.
Please slow down, stay alert, and give our Crossing Guards the space and respect they need to keep students safe!
Use Your Weingarten Rights – Don’t Go Into a Disciplinary Meeting Alone
If management asks you to attend a meeting that could lead to discipline, stop and call your union representative. Don’t assume it’s “just a conversation.”
As a union member, you have Weingarten Rights—the right to request union representation during a meeting you reasonably believe could lead to discipline.
Know your rights before you answer questions. If you’re unsure why you’re being called into a meeting or whether discipline could result, contact your union representative before the meeting begins.
Have issues in your workplace and need some guidance? Reach out to your union representative. Call the office (301-977-2447) or send an email. They are there to help.
