Early Voting Begins Thursday — Make Your Plan to Vote
Early voting in Maryland begins Thursday, June 11, and runs through June 18 ahead of the June 23 Primary Election.
This election will help shape decisions impacting public services, workers, libraries, public safety, transportation, housing, schools, and our communities across Maryland.
MCGEO has made a number of endorsements, including County Council and courthouse positions. You can view the union’s endorsed candidates and election information at 2026 Endorsements.

MCGEO Joins County Leaders at the 8th Annual Pride Flag Raising
MCGEO joined Montgomery County leaders, community members, and advocates at the 8th Annual Pride Flag Raising Ceremony in Rockville to help kick off Pride Month.
The ceremony served as a reminder that Pride Month is not only a celebration, but also a recognition of the courage, resilience, and ongoing fight for equality within the LGBTQ+ community. From the Stonewall Uprising in 1969 to today, Pride has always been rooted in visibility, solidarity, and standing together against discrimination.
As union members, we understand that solidarity means standing together against injustice in all forms — whether in the workplace, in our communities, or across the country. MCGEO remains committed to building workplaces and communities where everyone is respected, protected, and empowered to live openly and authentically.
This year, MCGEO is also proud to celebrate Pride Month alongside the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) and the launch of the newly redesigned “Ride With Pride” bus traveling throughout Montgomery County.
The 2025-2026 Pride Bus features a vibrant “Radiating Love” design intended to highlight the importance of an inclusive and equitable public transportation system while uplifting LGBTQ+ voices, culture, and civil rights. The redesigned bus includes illuminated “Ride With Pride” messaging designed to stand out across the county during both day and night service.
MCDOT’s Pride Bus will rotate through routes countywide throughout June, helping spread visibility and awareness while reinforcing the message that public transportation should serve and welcome everyone.
The initiative also recognizes the continuing challenges faced by LGBTQ+ communities, including discrimination and health inequities that disproportionately impact Black and Brown LGBTQ+ individuals. Through efforts like the Pride Bus campaign, Montgomery County continues working toward a more inclusive community where every resident feels seen, welcomed, and valued.

MCGEO at Taste of Wheaton
Leaders and members of UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO were on hand at the 30th Annual Taste of Wheaton on Sunday, June 7, 2026. The longtime community festival celebrated Wheaton’s cultural diversity with food from local restaurants, live entertainment, and artisan vendors at Marian Fryer Town Plaza.
MCGEO used the event as an opportunity to connect with community members, raise the union’s visibility, and encourage residents to make their voices heard in the upcoming elections.
MCGEO Leaders Elected to Lead UFCW Women’s Network at 16th Biennial Convention
During the recent UFCW Women’s Network 16th Biennial Convention, MCGEO Secretary-Treasurer Lisa Blackwell-Brown was elected to serve as the Network’s Secretary-Treasurer, and Vice President Datrina Childers was elected Region 2 Coordinator.
This year’s convention theme, Agents of Change, Voices of Power, highlighted the important role women play in strengthening the labor movement and advocating for working families. The UFCW Women’s Network works to motivate and encourage women to become active in their local unions so they can contribute toward building and strengthening the UFCW through leadership, activism, mentorship, and solidarity.
