After a long and painstaking bargaining process, fraught with management delays, the union reached a tentative agreement with management at the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System ahead of last night’s Board of Trustees meeting.

The road to an agreement was not easy. After repeated refusals by the former library director to bargain in good faith with the union, members were forced to take the extraordinary step of conducting a vote of no confidence in his leadership. Following his removal and the appointment of an interim director, progress at the bargaining table accelerated and discussions began moving in a far more productive direction.

Member activism and consistent engagement played a major role in keeping pressure on the process, alongside the work of County Council members who helped push for a resolution.

At last night’s Board meeting, the tremendous turnout demonstrated that MCGEO members at PGCMLS were fired up, united, and ready to see this contract resolved.
