Every day, library workers do far more than check out books. They serve as educators, guides, problem-solvers, and trusted community resources for thousands of residents across our region. Today is National Library Workers Day and today we proudly celebrate our dedicated members working in the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS), Montgomery County Public Libraries, and Charles County Public Libraries as well as those across our region who are seeking a voice on the job with us at their library system!

Library workers play a critical role in meeting the evolving needs of our communities. From helping families access educational resources and digital tools, to assisting job seekers with career searches and small business development, library staff are often the first place residents turn for help. Many library professionals also connect patrons with essential social services, health resources, and technology support—ensuring that no one is left behind in today’s increasingly digital world.

National Library Workers Day is a time to recognize these professionals for their expertise and their commitment to transforming lives through education, information access, and lifelong learning. Whether helping a student find the right research materials, guiding a senior through a new technology platform, or supporting entrepreneurs working to launch small businesses, library workers are constantly opening doors of opportunity.

The work done in our libraries strengthens our communities by providing spaces for engagement, enrichment, and personal development. Libraries are places where children discover the joy of reading, students build skills for the future, and residents gain access to tools that help them succeed.

MCGEO is proud to represent the hardworking professionals who keep these vital community institutions running every day. Their dedication, knowledge, and public service embody the very best of what our libraries stand for.

On National Library Workers Day, we extend our sincere appreciation to all library workers for the essential role they play in building stronger, more connected communities.

MCGEO members working in the Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services (DPS) may notice an issue with their timecards last week due to a technical problem with the County’s scheduling system.

According to DPS management, the MCtime scheduling application unexpectedly removed schedules from many employee timecards, which caused some records to show missing or reduced hours. The issue appears to be system-related and not connected to any employee action.

County officials have told us that MCtime administrators are actively working to correct the problem. Once the issue is resolved, all affected timecards are expected to be restored and updated with the correct schedules and hours.

The union is monitoring the situation closely to ensure that members’ hours, pay, and records are fully corrected once the system fix is completed.

Members who notice discrepancies in their timecards should continue to monitor their accounts as the correction process moves forward. If problems persist after the system update, members are encouraged to reach out to their supervisor or contact. Please feel free to reach out to Aaron Smith at asmith@mcgeo.org to get help.
