HHS Grievance | April 2024

Latest News

The Union is aware of the ongoing safety and health issues surrounding the use of implements in the workplace that are unsafe. Per the contract language, Article, 34, Safety and Health, “the County shall provide a safe and healthy work environment…” Furthermore, in Appendix II, Department of Health and Human Services, under General Issues, it states the following:

  • The County shall purchase safe needles for use by Nurses and Technicians and maintain a needle stick and sharp instrument protection policy

It is the Union’s position that the Department of Health and Human Services violates these contractual mandates as bargained for by MCGEO and the County. The Union is working to address this matter to hold the Department of Health and Human Services accountable to the collective bargaining agreement and to provide the employees with the safety implements necessary to foster a safe and healthy work environment.

As the Union works to rectify the issues surrounding unsafe sharps, the Union wants you to know that if you are put in a position where you are asked to do something at work that is unsafe or places you in harm’s way or at risk for bodily injury, please contact us immediately so that we can protect you in these situations.
