Unions are started on the principle that all workers deserve fair treatment and respect. This includes making sure managers do not use disciplinary action to unfairly punish you and your coworkers.
Whether you are looking for better wages and benefits, safer working conditions or just need someone to help you and your co-workers have a voice on the job. A union can help you.
Union members come together to make workplace improvements. Unions advocate for working people to keep us safer, healthier and able to enjoy a higher quality of life. All working people should have the freedom to join a union to make their workplaces better and negotiate for the wages and benefits they deserve.
UFCW members see and feel the difference in their paychecks every day. By coming together in a union, we raise wages for every worker. We also make sure you keep more of what you earn by keeping bad company practices like wage theft at bay.

Five steps to joining the UFCW
Workers meet with UFCW representatives to learn more about joining the UFCW. A committee of workers and UFCW reps will gather signatures on union cards from people interested in becoming members.
When a strong majority of workers sign union cards, the UFCW presents the cards to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), an agency of the federal government, and asks them to conduct an election. The UFCW, your company, and the NLRB set the date of the election.
When a majority of workers vote YES, we have the right to sit down with management to negotiate a contract and make improve-ments to our wages, benefits, and working conditions.
A committee made up of co-workers and UFCW representatives will meet with the company to develop a union contract with guaranteed wages, benefits, and working conditions.
Together, we all decide whether we like the contract and vote to accept or reject it. No one pays union dues until after the majority approves a contract.
