Many of our members participate in Local 1994's ABC (Active Ballot Club) program, the Political Action Committee (PAC) for our Union. Contributions to the ABC give our union a voice and power at the ballot box and the bargaining table. As campaigning for the midterm primary elections in June 2022 gets under way, the hard work of our PAC is just beginning.
2022 will be a watershed year for our local elections. Both Montgomery and Prince George's Counties will elect new county executives and substantially new county councils as well. The results of this election will have a significant impact on our ability to negotiate strong contracts and enact worker friendly legislation for years to come. UFCW Local 1994 endorses candidates in city, county and statewide races that have an impact on our members and their families. Our endorsements can include any viable candidates, no matter their party, but the main criteria are that a candidate must support policies that support working families.
As a participant in our ABC, you are eligible and invited to join the UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO Endorsement Committee. The Endorsement Committee is responsible for the selection process for candidates. We will be meeting to vet and interview candidates seeking our endorsement in county elections.
If you are interested in being a part of the Endorsement Committee, please click the email link below and return an application.
The endorsement process works like this:
- The Endorsement Committee will screen candidates running for office using a combination of in-person interviews, questionnaires and the candidates' track records.
- Committee members vote on whether to recommend endorsing a candidate.
- Committee recommendations are then voted on by the union's Executive Board
ONLY ABC participants are eligible to join the Committee.
