April and Melissa,
The Union is deeply troubled by the recent data breach at Athena Consulting that has compromised employee information. We’ve been approached by several members who have voiced their concerns in regards to this matter. While you have answered some of the questions that have been raised, The Union would like answers to the following:
• What specific safeguards has Athena Consulting put in place to protect employee information?
• Was beneficiary information for the retirement fund also compromised?
Additionally, we have reviewed the memorandum that was sent out to employees in regards to the data breach. It is the Union’s position that the free credit monitoring service that Athena has offered under the section titled “What Are We Doing?”, is insufficient in order to remediate the potential damages from this breach. As such, The Union would like to ask that free credit monitoring service be offered, at a minimum, for five years, with identity theft/fraud protection included as well.
Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter. I look forward to your detailed response.
