      2015 UFCW Scholarship program - available online starting January 11

      In 2015 the UFCW will award several SCHOLARSHIPS, up te $8,000 each, to UFCW members or their unmarried dependents under the age of 20. For morie information, and to find out if you're eligible, please visit: www.ufcw.org/scholarship.  The scholarship application will be available online from January 11 - March 15, 2015.

      Montgomery budget woes loom, but things could change

      BILL TURQUE Tuesday, December 9, 2014 Montgomery officials delivered  a downbeat fiscal forecast  to the County Council Tuesday, reporting that if lower -than-expected tax revenues continue their current trajectory, county departments would have to take a 6.1 percent spending cut ($238 million) to produce a balanced budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1.

      The Sick Leave Bank (SLB) continues to be a great success and will continue as a permanent program for MCGEO members. There are some changes that have been made to enhance the program.  MCGEO members will be automatically enrolled in the SLB effective in the 2015 year. If you wish to remain in the SLB you don’t have to do anything.

      DLC Privatization

      Once again - the threat of privatization of Montgomery County's Dept. of Liquor Control looms over our heads. At least 500 of our brothers and sisters could lose their solid, middle class jobs if the County makes that move and the County could lose a great deal of revenue generated from the Dept. There's even the possibility that the County could lose its AAA bond rating.
