Young women interested in being part of the next generation of union leadership have a new opportunity, thanks to a scholarship being offered this year by the DC YTU. The scholarship to the UALE Northeast Summer School for Union Women will help “educate a young woman on issues that help protect union members and help move the labor movement forward,” says DC Young Trade Unionists President Kevin Burton. Classes, which will be held at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, range from collective bargaining to public speaking and mobilizing for political and legislative activity. The school aims to “strengthen their [students’] knowledge and understanding of the U.S. labor movement, and to develop skills that will prepare them to be more active members and leaders.”
“As a former student and instructor, I encourage every union woman to participate and to experience first hand the education, solidarity, and
lasting sisterhood the summer school provides.”
- Laurel Brennan, Secretary-Treasurer, New Jersey State AFL-CIO.
The summer school runs July 28th-August 2nd, 2012. The scholarship will include travel expenses, registration costs, housing and meals.
We encourage all interested union women to apply. To apply, go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/3V3HW6H. You will also find
